⏱️This edition of the National Account’s newsletter is a four-minute read.
👋 G’day everyone, Archie here.
I’ve got lots of news for you today, so let’s crack straight into it🗞️.

Australia isn’t what it was
🗣️ Why do they say that?
I’ve noticed my social media feeds have really been trying to make me angry and confused about the state of Australia.
Conveniently, a lot of the creators telling me how the country “isn't what it was” have presented an apparent cause for why this might be - “mass immigration”.
Today, I give a rundown on what these creators do to try to sway you to their side and go into why this isn’t all quite what it seems:
Old coal carries on
This week, it was announced that the Eraring coal power plant will be extended until 2029. Experts say this will mean higher power prices for longer.

😬 Confident leadership
Sussan Ley has begun the fight to retain leadership of the Liberal Party, telling Nine on Friday morning she is “absolutely confident” in her leadership and will continue to deliver.
Ley said “what’s really going on here is the business of opposition, and it’s important, and it matters”.
On Thursday, Nationals Leader David Littleproud called the relationship between his party and its senior Coalition partner, the Liberals, “untenable”.
Littleproud said the Coalition will not be getting back together while Sussan Ley remains Liberal leader.
When asked about leadership aspirants Angus Taylor and Andrew Hastie, Ley said they are “strong, committed members of my team”.
In case you missed it, yesterday I gave the rundown on how the Coalition split came to be.

Thanks for catching up with me. I hope you enjoyed this issue, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. Just reply to this email and I’ll be on the other side 👋.
I’ll be back on Wednesday.
Cheers, Archie
