⏱️This edition of the National Account’s newsletter is a three-minute read.

👋 G’day everyone, Archie here.

Today we’re having a look at different tactics being employed by two state Labor governments to ward off the threat of One Nation.

In Victoria, Premier Ben Carroll wants to see One Nation Leader Warren Pickering on stage alongside Liberal Leader Jess Wilson during a leader debate.

While up in New South Wales, Premier Chris Minns has just given the party unlimited use of the parliamentary budget office, meaning One Nation has no excuse not to cost its policies.

Let’s dive into it 🗞️.

If a Liberal-One Nation Coalition government is a real possibility, then Victorians deserve the chance to hear directly from One Nation’s leader about what they stand for and what they’d be negotiating for in government.

🗣️ Why did he say that?

With One Nation polling between 19 and 24 percent in Victoria, Labor is pushing for the party’s state leader, Warren Pickering, to be included in any televised debates ahead of the November 28 election.

The Liberals, who may need One Nation’s support to form government, say they won’t take part if he is.

In NSW, where voters go to the polls in March, Labor has given One Nation the same unlimited access to the Parliamentary Budget Office as the major parties. Other minor parties, including the Greens, can only get two policies costed.

Labor says it wants One Nation’s policies scrutinised. One Nation calls it a “political stitch-up”.

In case you missed it 🪑

Troy Buswell became leader of the Western Australian Liberals in January 2008, the same month he was accused of snapping a Labor staffer’s bra.

By April, he had admitted to sniffing a staffer’s chair. These are just two events in Buswell’s life. He also pleaded guilty to three domestic violence offences against his ex-wife.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this newsletter as well as any ideas for things The National Account should look at. Just reply to this email and I’ll be on the other side 👋.

I’ll be back on Wednesday.
