One in ten renters in Australia live in homes needing urgent fixes. So how come your landlord says they can't afford to do anything about it?
Negative gearing has encouraged landlords to borrow more than they can actually afford with the tax system subsidising the shortfall.
As a result, many don't have the cash flow to maintain the properties they're renting out.
According to Leo Patterson Ross from the NSW Tenants Union, the government's recent changes to negative gearing could actually mean your landlord has less of an excuse for not fixing things.
