⏱️This edition of the National Account’s newsletter is a three-minute read.
👋 G’day everyone, Archie here.
I'm going to start this newsletter by asking for a small favour.
That favour? Subscribing to our YouTube channel, as it really helps with all of the interviews and other content we've been making over the last year and a half.

Thank you very much for that, now let’s crack into the news 🗞️

Nuclear is not the lowest cost option to decarbonise our electricity system and the total development time in Australia for large or small-scale nuclear is
at least 15 years.
🗣️ Why did it say that?
There are plenty of politicians getting money from the fossil fuel industry. Quite often, those same elected leaders, typically from One Nation and the Coalition, are also advocates for nuclear power in Australia.
But why would the fossil fuel industry support this if it's technically a competitor to nuclear power?
Because in Australia, it's all about buying time for coal, oil and gas.

In case you missed it 🏄♂️
Peter Whish-Wilson has been a Greens Senator for Tasmania for over 14 years.
Now retiring, he sat down with me to talk about his climate mis-information investigation, what he thinks the future of Australian politics looks like and what direction he wants to see the party head in after he leaves.

Thanks for catching up with me. I hope you enjoyed this issue, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. Just reply to this email and I’ll be on the other side 👋
I’ll be back on Wednesday.
Cheers, Archie
