There's no extension cord that runs from a renewable wind project in the country to a data centre in the city.
🗣️ Why did he say that?
Data centres in Australia are supposed to run on clean energy. The government currently says it’ll fast track the ones that do.
But instead of building new energy sources to power data centres, operators are using a loophole that means no new supply of energy is being added to the grid.
The North Shore Lorikeet’s Huw Bradshaw told me about data centres soaking up renewable energy that was meant to help Australia move off coal and gas, without bringing on any extra.
