⏱️This edition of the National Account’s newsletter is a 5-minute read.
👋 G’day everyone, Archie here.
We’re diving straight in today with an interview I’ve been really looking forward to.

Politics impacts every single Australian and it has been deliberately made a shit show and confusing and boring and everything, and then vested interests come in, rig the rules and we pay the price
🗣️ Why did he say that?
Today I got the chance to have a chat with an early supporter of the National Account on social media, @punterspolitics, also known as Konrad Benjamin.
We talked about his meteoric rise into the Australian political sphere, what he considers himself to be, the future of independent media and something that he has never been asked about before: his faith.

The yanks think we’re not okay 🎰
In 2018, the US Supreme Court removed a national ban on sports betting, but there was still some going on in states like Nevada. As a result, Americans went from betting around $5 billion a year on sports to nearly $150 billion.
Despite being such a divided country, I managed to find a consensus of think pieces on both the left and right sides of politics, pointing to the harm sports betting is having on American society.
Meanwhile, back home, it’s been 1000 days since the Federal Government received the review into gambling reform, chaired by the late MP Peta Murphy, and it’s still sitting on the shelf.
The key recommendation? Scrapping gambling advertising.
The responsibility comes to Communications and Sports Minister Anika Wells, who has mostly been focused on the under-16s social media ban rather than gambling reform.
Aussies remain the biggest gamblers in the world per capita.

Thanks for catching up with me. I hope you enjoyed this issue, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. Just reply to this email and I’ll be on the other side 👋
I’ll be back on Friday.
Cheers, Archie
