⏱️This edition of the National Account’s newsletter is a four-minute read.
👋 G’day everyone, Archie here.
I won’t lie, I’m a little bit disappointed. After living in Australia for almost three years, I thought it was time for a trip to one of this nation’s ski fields.
I’ve heard a lot of mixed opinions, particularly when comparing Oz fields to those in my home of the South Island of New Zealand, but was looking forward to seeing it for myself.
After today’s interview with the Gippsland Monitor’s Jacob Wallace, my hopes have dwindled.
Let’s crack into it 🎿.

You never really expect snow now on the first weekend of ski season
🗣️ Why did he say that?
Australia has already lost 30 percent of its snow coverage since the 1950s.
Now, what could be the strongest El Niño since records began could take a serious bite out of what's left.
Reporter for the Gippsland Monitor Jacob Wallace told me what El Niño actually means for Australian ski fields, why warmer, drier conditions tend to bring rain and ice instead of snow and what that means for low-lying resorts like Mount Baw Baw.

Stacking the system 🏛️
In an attempt to fix political donation laws the High Court ruled were unconstitutional, the Victorian Government has brought in new rules that still seem to favour the major political parties. How did this happen?

Thanks for catching up with me. If you’ve got any feedback, just reply to this email and I’ll be on the other end 👋.
And if you have any ideas on who I should speak to next, please let me know.
I’ll be back on Monday.
Cheers, Archie
